Getting to Lisbon and School Venue
Flying to Lisbon
Lisbon has only one major international airport, which is officially known as Humberto Delgado Airport (IATA: LIS, ICAO: LPPT), commonly referred to as Lisbon Airport or previously as Portela Airport. This airport is located about 7 km (4.35 mi) northeast of Lisbon’s city center and serves both domestic and international flights.
From Lisbon Airport to Eurostars Universal Lisboa (school venue) / Ikonik Lisboa (housing)
The school venue and accommodation are in hotels right next to each other and shares the same lobby. From Lisbon Airport, here are a couple of transport options to the hotels:
- By metro:
Take the metro (Red line, in direction of São Sebastião) from the airport. Get off after 3 stops at Oriente station. From there it should only be a 10 mins walk to the hotels.
Cost: Approx. €2 for single journey
Duration: 20-30 minutes

Taxis are available outside the airport terminals. Please have the hotel address ready (see above) just in case.
Cost: €15-20 (to be confirmed but should be less than €20)
Duration: 10-15 minutes
Visa requirements for entry into Portugal
A good starting point would be to determine your entry requirements for Portugal, e.g. visa requirements information from the Portugese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Participants are solely responsible for:
- Determining their individual visa requirements for entry into Portugal.
- Obtaining any necessary visas or travel documents.
- Covering all costs associated with visa applications.
Even if you do not require a visa, please ensure the validity of your passport or travel document meets the relevant requirements, e.g. for Australian, Canadian, Japanese and U.S. citizens, your passport need to be valid for 3 months beyond your return date (or more specifically departure date from the Schengen area if you are travelling onwards to other European countries).
Travel Insurance
We highly recommend individually obtaining optional travel insurance to prepare for unexpected situations such as illnesses or disruptions during your stay in Portugal.
